This Imported JDM 1996 Ford Taurus GL Wagon Looks Amazing: Video

Collector interest in the Ford Taurus is starting to heat up, years after the last example of that once mega-popular sedan was sold in the U.S. In fact, we’ve seen a large number of low-mile, well-kept Taurus models hit the auction block recently and sell for increasingly large sums of money. However, one thing we rarely – if ever – see is a Japanese market Ford Taurus in the states, making this imported model something truly unique and special.

This 1996 Ford Taurus GL Wagon does indeed hail from Japan and surfaced for sale on Bring a Trailer back in November 2022, after which it sold for $9,300 – more than some similar, low-mile North American spec models we’ve seen recently. It’s now in the possession of the YouTube channel Unloved Autos, who recently posted a video discussing this rarely seen import, which is a right-hand drive model that became quite famous on TikTok as well – to the point where someone even recognized it at a small town cars and coffee meet.

Regardless, other than the fact that the steering wheel is located on the right side of the interior, this Japanese Ford Taurus looks, well, quite American. There are a few other interesting details present, however, including a Ford Nagoya sticker on the rear glass of the wagon, a Japanese-style front license plate bracket, and some very interesting wheels, which are made by a company called JBM that are quite period correct. Someone has also added an aftermarket body kit to the wagon that’s color-matched in Moonlight Blue.

With just 79k miles on the clock, this JDM Ford Taurus wagon remains in pretty solid condition, inside and out. Inside the cabin, one will find a speedometer that measures speed in kilometers per hour, as well as a Japanese owner’s manual. Otherwise, it’s basically the same as its North American counterpart, but given the fact that Ford stopped selling vehicles in Japan years ago, it’s also not something that we see very often these days.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. I’m a wagon guy. I like wagons. I own a wagon. I own a Darkmoon Blue TourX. But a Moonlight Blue Taurus? No. Never. These 90s Taurus/Sable wagons are hideous. They look like an AMC Pacer that got stepped on.
