Toyota Urban Cruiser Debuts As All-New Ford Puma Gen-E Rival

The all-new Ford Puma Gen-E just debuted earlier this month as the latest addition to the automaker’s all-electric lineup, albeit only in Europe – where FoMoCo is current scaling back its passenger vehicle plans and expanding its commercial focus. The Puma EV is, at least, Ford’s cheapest EV model on sale in that part of the world with a starting price of £29,995, but it also has plenty of competition to contend with as well. Now, that particular list has expanded yet again following the debut of the new Toyota Urban Cruiser, another small all-electric model that’s destined for Europe as well.

A side view of the Toyota Urban Cruiser.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser is a subcompact all-electric crossover that will only be sold in Europe, and it shares a platform with the Suzuki e-Vitara. It’s the smallest crossover Toyota offers as well, coming in at a full six inches shorter than the Corolla Cross, and features unique styling inside and out. Inside the cabin, one will find unique features such as a squared-circle steering wheel, a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 10.1-inch center touchscreen. On the outside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser lives up to its name with a design that’s intended to appeal to city dwellers, which makes sense given its small footprint.

In terms of powertrains, the Toyota Urban Cruiser can be had in a few configurations – a front-wheel drive model with 142 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque on tap when paired with a 49 kWh battery pack, 172 horsepower when mated to a larger 61 kWh unit, or – for all-wheel drive models – 181 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, which comes standard with the bigger battery pack.

For now at least, Toyota hasn’t shared any range data pertaining to the new Urban Cruiser, nor any sort of pricing info or even an expected launch date. However, the small crossover will make its public debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show next month, regardless.

  1. So it’s a Suzuki. Toyota is still asleep at the wheel when it comes to EVs.
