It wasn’t too terribly long ago when it looked like The Blue Oval was destined to fully electrify its entire lineup – and in fact, it planned to do just that in Europe, at least, until weak demand prompted it to scrap that plan earlier this year. Now that the market has softened, Ford instead plans to offer a diverse array of powertrain options for the foreseeable future, and has also shifted its focus to smaller, cheaper EVs rather than larger, more expensive ones. All of this begs the question – will a Ford Expedition EV ever come to fruition?
As of right now, it certainly seems unlikely that a Ford Expedition EV will ever exist – at least, in the foreseeable future, for a number of reasons. For starters, the next-generation Ford F-150 EV was recently delayed to 2027, a move made for the aforementioned reasons, coupled with the fact that Ford F-150 Lightning sales, while increasing, aren’t hitting expected levels, prompting some production scale backs. Since the ICE Expedition shares the T3 platform with the regular F-150, it stands to reason that an EV variant would do precisely the same.
Ford’s EV plans have changed dramatically as of late as well, with the automaker developing a low-cost platform over the past few years that will underpin a variety of future models – albeit, smaller ones including a mid-size pickup and potentially a crossover and ride-share vehicle, seemingly ruling out a Ford Expedition EV. However, a Lincoln Navigator EV seems more likely to happen, as it would tout higher profit margins and provide a suitable rival to the Cadillac Escalade IQ.
As for the Expedition, it seems much more likely that a hybrid powertrain will be added to the lineup than an EV, given the fact that Ford plans to electrify its entire ICE-focused Blue lineup by 2030. In fact, an Expedition hybrid has been rumored to be in the works for some time now, and even though it didn’t arrive in time for the 2025 model year redesign, a recent report indicates that we could see it happen in 2028 as part of the SUV’s next mid-cycle refresh.

I can’t imagine why anyone would care the price would be so high only the rich could afford it.
There are enough wealthy people to buy it. Ford won’t stop just because you cannot afford it. And you care to post abou it. I want more EV on our roads, even if they are expensive.
Since they would lose over $100,000 for everyone that will sell, it is very unlikely that they would build it. Besides, Lightning production has stopped for the moment.
