1962 Ford Thunderbird Owned By Sammy Hagar Heading To Auction

The Ford Thunderbird is an iconic model from Blue Oval history, a car that debuted as a sporty open-air two-seater and went on to become a stylish, larger coupe in later years. A machine with plenty of curb appeal, it’s not terribly surprising that a lot of famous folks have owned Ford Thunderbird models over the years either, a list that includes the likes of media personality, socialite, and businesswoman Kris Jenner, as well as the legendary Carroll Shelby. Now, another celebrity-owned Ford Thunderbird is set to be auctioned off, too.

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird crossing the block at this month’s Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is currently owned by Sammy Hagar, singer – songwriter, guitarist, and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, who has enjoyed a successful solo career, as well as spending a number of years as the lead vocalist of Van Halen. As for his Ford Thunderbird, Hagar will drive it across the stage during the “Rock the Block” concert kicking off Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, after which it will be sold with no reserve. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Hagar’s T-Bird will benefit suicide prevention, too.

Sammy Hagar’s Ford Thunderbird was previously treated to a two-year restoration that has it looking better than new, and it’s a car that he spent a lot of time cruising in with his bandmates – Montrose founder/guitarist Ronnie Montrose, bassist Bill Church, and drummer Denny Carmassi. It’s finished in black with a contrasting red interior, a truly fine example of the third-generation T-Bird complete with the original 390 cubic-inch V8 and an automatic transmission.

“We drove that car to Winterland and went on stage to play and drove it home afterwards,” Hagar said of his T-Bird. “It’s a street rod. It’s made to be driven on the street.” Now, one lucky Hagar/Ford fan will get the chance to do precisely that, if they wind up placing the winning bid on this vintage ride.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

    1. Me too. I’ve never seen another one with this kind of look. It is very nice! I’m half way tempted to bid on it, but the Hagar connection is going to put it out of my reach.

  3. 1962 was the cleanest of the three year rocket Thunderbirds and my favorite Thunderbird

  4. Those cheap ass hub caps look ridiculous on such a nice Tbird. It deserves some nice polished alloy wheels. Even the base model started with full wheel covers. Dog dishes were never put on Tbirds.
