1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Gets First Wash In 28 Years: Video

It’s always good practice to properly prepare a vehicle you don’t intend to drive for a while, and that usually doesn’t entail leaving it outside for almost 30 years. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened to one 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, which belonged to the late brother of the Barnes family, whose siblings enlisted the help of Larry Kosilla and Ammo NYC, an auto detailer. Kosilla brought the vehicle back to his shop and scrubbed it within an inch of its life as part of the process to prepare it it for the road once again.

After gently extracting the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra from its resting place – in a snowstorm nonetheless – Kosilla’s crew gets to work. They note that the muscle car is in extremely poor condition, having played host to countless rodents and other pests throughout its three-decade slumber. They’re particularly interested in saving this vehicle because it’s one of just over 1,000 units that were produced with a black exterior paint with Opal Gray leather inside.

Kosilla’s crew rips out the entire interior, finding that it’s absolutely riddled with rodent nests to the point that they’re not even sure they can save the carpeting. After fighting to remove the seats, they finally take out its “frozen biohazard carpet” and call it a day.

The next day, they delve into power washing the pony car. Once the exterior is properly scrubbed down, they turn their attention to the interior, vacuuming debris and cleaning the gunk of the seats and interior trim.

The next step brings Kosilla to the exterior. He works hard to bring the black finish back to its former luster, hoping that all the hard work they’re putting into the Mustang SVT Cobra will encourage the Barnes family to finish fixing it up. They put it all back together, sparking interior and all, and it seems like it worked – when they see the car, the Barnes family comments that their brother would be proud and remark that they’re eager to get it running and driving for his sake.

This Ford Mustang SVT isn’t the first Blue Oval vehicle turned over to Ammo NYC’s care A few years ago, a 2005 Ford GT ended up in their hands in desperate need of a similar treatment to this Mustang.
