Back in March 2023, The Blue Oval announced that the Ford Transit Connect would be officially canceled for the North American market following the conclusion of the 2023 model year. That was indeed the case, as the automaker opted not to develop a next-generation version of the small van amid declining sales in the U.S., though the Transit Connect does live on in Europe following a total redesign. Thus, those in the U.S. that wish to purchase a Ford Transit Connect are now forced to look to the used market, though this very cool camper conversion is truly one of a kind.
Up for auction at Cars & Bids, this 2021 Ford Transit Connect looks pretty normal on the outside, with Silver Metallic paint that’s in great shape – to be expected given the mere 6,300 miles that it has traveled thus far. However, peek inside, and one will find a bevy of modifications including a Maxxfan roof vent, a custom wood platform with built-in storage, a wooden headliner with lighting, two fold-out mattresses, a refrigerator, a toilet, a butcher’s block table, and a fully-insulated cargo area to keep the cold or heat out as needed.
On top of all that, this Transit Connect also features a Battle Born battery to power its accessories, plus a Renogy 100W Pure Sine Wave power inverter and a Victron Energy BMV-712 smart battery monitor. Otherwise, the compact camping machine is basically stock, equipped with the original 2.0L I-4 sending 162 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
New inventory of the Ford Transit Connect dried up late last year, though it may not be dead in the U.S. forever, or at least, it may return with a different name. As Ford Authority recently reported, a small van based on the Ford Maverick compact pickup is rumored to be in the works. In the meantime, we continue to see custom examples like this pop up at various collector car auction sites, regardless.
