2025 Ford Expedition 3.5L V6 EcoBoost High Output Explained

The redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition offers more than just a set of updated looks – it affords its buyers a choice when it comes to powertrain options. The SUV harnesses the twin-turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6 under its hood, either in its regular or high-output guise. Ford Authority lays out everything you need to know about the more powerful variant of the V6 EcoBoost engine.

As its name implies, the high output V6 EcoBoost engine offers a stock performance upgrade compared to the regular output variant. It’s tuned to deliver 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, up from the 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque offered in the regular version.

The high output V6 EcoBoost isn’t available on all 2025 Ford Expedition trims. In fact, it’s limited to a select few, and standard on only one: the Tremor. The Expedition Tremor is a new option for the 2025 model year, replacing the Timberline trim as the off-road-ready model in the bunch.

The only other trim that can be fitted with the high output 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine is the 2025 Expedition Platinum. The powerhouse is included as an upgrade offered in the form of two optional packages available on the Platinum trim. The first is the Stealth Performance Package, which costs $6,545 and includes sinister black exterior accents as well as the upgraded engine. The second is the Platinum Ultimate Package, which bundles a unique grille, engine sound enhancer, leather-trimmed seating surfaces up front, and exclusive 24-inch Tarnished Dark Metallic wheels, as well as the high output engine, for a cool $13,570.

Regardless of engine, the redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition offers brand new goodies like the Ford Split Gate, which transforms the tailgate into a multifunction surface for loading and tailgating. The Blue Oval has also added a bevy of new tech to the SUV that’s already available in some of its pickups, including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. The 2025 Ford Expedition can tow up to 7,000 pounds as-is, or up to 9,600 pounds with a weight distributing hitch.

Production of the refreshed SUV is slated to begin at the Kentucky Truck plant on January 6th, 2025, as previously reported by Ford Authority. Pricing starts at $63,695, including destination freight charges, making the SUV a bit more expensive than it was for 2024.

  1. I have a feeling this exists because the Police will be using them now, and won’t be amazed if it moved to Raptor with the next refresh to close the gap with the RHO.

  2. When will Ford learn that potential Explorer buyers who live in the mountains won’t pay $60K+ for a V6. An under powered engine (4 cylinder) doesn’t save gas at altitude and is a dog even with a turbo when hauling anything. They lost an Explorer sale to a Georgia made KIA Telluride here for $43K

  3. Instead of hig5h output Ecoboost…..how about a non ecoboost option with simple v8….for some us that dont need to be replacing timing chains ever 100,000
