With a midcycle refresh on deck, the 2025 Ford Maverick debuted with an updated face, a revamped suite of technologies, and the addition of all-wheel-drive (AWD) to the hybrid model’s options list. It also received some updates to its transmission lineup, and with three total transmissions on the order books, Ford Authority is taking a look at all of them, including availability and how to get them.
PowerSplit eCVT
The 2025 Ford Maverick gets the HF55 PowerSplit eCVT (electronic constant velocity transmission) as standard fare. All-new for the 2025 Maverick, it’s available exclusively in conjunction with the popular compact pickup’s 2.5L hybrid powertrain, which includes standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) or optional AWD. Note that the eCVT is the only transmission available with the hybrid powertrain.
The HF55 eCVT is replacing the pre-refresh Maverick’s HF45 gearbox. The HF55 offers a higher torque capacity than its predecessor, which was used in the 2022 through 2024 Maverick Hybrid (along with the Ford Escape hybrid). As Ford Authority previously reported, the latest master contract agreement between Ford and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union reveals that production of the HF45 is only slated to continue for a few more years, signaling that it will be replaced by the HF55.
8-Speed Automatic Transmission
Opting for a purely internal combustion engine (ICE) based powertrain outfits the 2025 Ford Maverick with the eight-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is paired with the turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost I4 when equipped under the hood of the XL, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor trims. The traditional eight-speed automatic has been in use in conjunction with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine since the Maverick was first introduced, helping the compact pickup minimize fuel consumption.
7-Speed Quick Shift Automatic Transmission
Finally, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo gets the automaker’s seven-speed automatic transmission. The brand-new trim gets its gearbox from the now-discontinued Ford Edge ST, as Ford Authority reported back in August. That transmission is mated to the Lobo’s 2.0L EcoBoost powerhouse. What’s particularly interesting about the seven-speed gearbox is the fact that it’s physically identical to the eight-speed transmission that preceded it before the 2021 model year, although second is electronically eliminated from the equation, resulting in seven gears instead.
2025 Ford Maverick production at the Hermosillo Assembly plant in Mexico is kicked off on November 11th, 2024. The pickup began landing at U.S. dealers just one month later, putting it one step closer to the hands of its buyers in North America. We know the midcycle refresh has ruffled some feathers, and Ford Authority checked in with our readers via a recent poll to find out where you stand, revealing that most of you agree that it would have been better off left alone.
