2025 Ford Mustang GTD Spirit Of America Officially Debuts

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD instantly became the most powerful pony car in history following its debut some time ago, and recently backed up that lofty achievement by lapping the Nurburgring in Germany in under seven minutes, which is the fifth-fastest time posted by a stock production sports car at the track – though FoMoCo also intends to give it another go this year. The Ford Mustang GTD will exist in multiple forms, too – including the already-unveiled Carbon Series – as well as the just-revealed Spirit of America, too.

A side view of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America.

The Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America pays homage to the distinctly American pony car and its rich history – as well as Craig Breedlove, the legendary land speed racer who famously piloted his turbojet-powered machine – dubbed Spirit of America – to a number of records, surpassing 600 miles-per-hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Breedlove started out using a $500 jet engine taken from a Korean fighter plane during a time when the sport was dominated by European aristocrats and rich folks, too.

“Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of Mustang performance. Mustang GTD Spirit of America celebrates the daring behind that performance,” said Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens. “Mustang GTD wouldn’t have been possible without people like Craig Breedlove, pushing the edge of the envelope and challenging the Goliaths of the day in an all-American way.”

The Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America pays homage to Breedlove’s racer with a Performance White exterior featuring Race Red and Lightning Blue racing stripes, which join exposed carbon fiber elements including the front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler – the latter of which features Race Red end plates and “Mustang” script. Owners can choose between exposed carbon fiber or Race Red mirror caps, but Race Red calipers and the Performance Package are included as standard.

Inside the cabin, the Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America features unique seats with leather trim and Dinamica inserts, joined by Black Onyx, Race Red, and Re-Entry white accents and Victory Blue contrast stitching. Customers can opt for a 3D-printed titanium shift ring, IP badge, and paddle shifters, to boot. Otherwise, the Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America is mechanically identical to its counterparts, meaning that it’s powered by a supercharged 5.2L V8 making 815 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch rear transaxle.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  2. An affordable mainstream model too bad they followed like lemings and went to the fart in a can sounding 4 banger. V6 minimum is what I bought buy.
