Bill Ford Says Michigan Central Station Hotel Deal Imminent

Following years of work and a ton of money invested, Ford officially opened the first portion of the rejuvenated Michigan Central Station site last year, but there’s still much work to be done moving forward. In fact, as Ford Authority reported roughly one year ago, the automaker has long eyed building a hotel at Michigan Central Station. FoMoCo was seeking a zoning change that would allow it to use part of the site as a hotel, which wasn’t previously possible as it was zoned for heavy industrial use only, and didn’t permit such structures. If this change is approved, the automaker plans to utilize the top two or three floors of the building to house a hotel. Now, it seems as if we’re getting close to that process being a done deal.

In a recent interview with CBS News, Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford noted that “we are very close to announcing a hotel for the Station, which will be in the top few floors. And that’ll be great, because that’ll also bring a lot of food and beverage to the entire Station. That’s kind of what’s missing right now, is the food and beverage piece. Once we get the hotel nailed down, that piece will get nailed down, and then it will really be a fun place to be.”

Ford spent roughly $1 billion rejuvenating the historic Michigan Central site over the past few years as the automaker works to transform it into a mobility hub housing a number of other companies and startups. That includes Blue Oval workers as well, with the first Michigan Central Station based Ford employees coming from its Model e EV-focused division, which is using the site as its new headquarters.

As Ford Authority previously reported, a new book dubbed The Station: The Fall and Rise of Michigan Central contains a foreword written by Bill Ford. Ford has thus far played a big role in the site’s rebirth, having also created the Michigan Central Station Children’s Endowment in partnership with the Children’s Foundation, setting a goal of raising at least $10 million to support youth-serving organizations in the Detroit area.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

Hmm, could some of the $1 billion being spent be for hidden cameras to observe the “number of other companies and startups.”?

  4. Maybe they can run a hotel better than they can run an automobile manufacturing company! But maybe not!

  5. I have a 2016 Ford Flex Sel , but I do not see a Ford in my future . Why , they have a lack of products in the future plans. I see a Genesis , Kia or Hundai . They have a 10 yr. – 100,000 mile warranty , and better build quality .
