Mystichrome is an exceedingly rare and equally fascinating color that can be found on very small numbers of the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. Every so often, an example of the pony car sporting the color shifting paint goes on sale, giving Mustang enthusiasts the chance to snag the Mustang SVT for themselves. This year, buyers will have the option to bid on a 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, but its Mystichrome paint-out isn’t the only thing that makes this one stand out from the crowd. It’s been customized with the drivetrain from a 2004 model.
Offered for sale at the forthcoming Mecum Auction in Kissimmee on January 11th, 2024, this 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra features a Mystichrome finish that was applied by Tarell Halloway at Carolina Collision. The stunning purple-gold-teal livery pairs perfectly with its bright silver Cobra wheels, which were also lifted from the 2004 model year donor.
In fact, quite a bit of this 1993 Mustang SVT actually belongs to the 2004 model year. The interior is furnished with the seats, dashboard, steering column, and center console from its newer brethren. Even the seat inserts feature a Mystichrome finish, as does the steering wheel and other aspects of the interior.
Under the hood, the 1993 Mustang SVT harnesses the supercharged 4.6L V8 engine, rated at 390 horsepower routed through its Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission. It features a 2004 Mustang SVT Hydroboost assist unit and ABS system, while sound is handled by a Dynomax 2.5-inch polished stainless exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. Its odometer reads just 30,838 miles, meaning that this 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra hasn’t just been someone’s garage ornament, and is in excellent condition.
However, there’s a catch. Unfortunately, this 1993 Mustang SVT is marred with a rebuilt title due to theft recovery. Details regarding the incident are slim, but it’s still a unique ride despite its history.
While it was limited to the Mustang SVT of over 20 years ago, Mystichrome recently made a comeback of sorts. RTR Vehicles revived the chameleon-esque hue for the 2024 Mustang RTR, whipping the color up for use on the seventh-generation pony car.
