There was a time – not too terribly long ago – when Ford mulled the idea of pulling out of the Australian market altogether, which would have come as a stunning development even as the company has lessened its presence in various other markets in recent years. After all, Ford Australia has played a big role in developing some key Blue Oval products such as the current generation Ford Ranger, and the recent addition of new products has led to some great successes for the automaker in that market as well. Now, with 2024 in the rear-view, Ford Australia has achieved a notable sales milestone, too.
According to CarExpert, Ford Australia sold 100,170 new vehicles last year, which is 14.1 percent or 12,370 more than 2023 – when it posted its best sales result in a decade. However, perhaps even more notable is the fact that this is the first time Ford Australia has surpassed the 100k sales mark since 2008, when it moved 104,715 vehicles – 44,536 of which were Falcons. The resulting financial crisis in 2009 put a damper on those figures, and Ford’s lineup in Australia has obviously changed considerably since then, too.
Now, the Ranger dominates Ford Australia’s sales charts with 62,593 units moved in 2024, which accounted for 62.5 percent of the automaker’s overall sales and made it the best-selling model in that country overall for the second consecutive year – the first time The Blue Oval achieved such a thing since the Falcon did it in 1992-1993. The Ranger’s SUV counterpart – the Everest – also set a new personal record with 26,494 sales last year, too.
The newest-generation Ford Ranger, Ranger Raptor, and Everest have thus far enjoyed a strong start in Australia, shortly after the regular Ranger took over the mid-size pickup sales crown from the Toyota Hilux. In fact, the Ranger Raptor reportedly accounted for a solid 15 percent of overall Ranger sales in 2023. As for the Everest, it just received a handful of updates for the 2025 model year, which should help it continue its ascension up the sales charts, too.

I am always befuddled why Ford doesn’t build in-country or export successful models to countries like Australia. I would think the Bronco/Bronco Sport/Maverick would do very well in Aussie.
We want them!! Although unless they can be built RHD from the factory they’re too expensive.
