Ford Explorer Among Top 10 Most Popular Used Cars Of 2024

The Ford Explorer is one of the most well-known, established automotive nameplates in today’s world, not to mention a regular atop the sales charts in terms of new SUVs and crossovers. As such, it’s also no surprise to see the Ford Explorer show up on various lists of the best-selling used vehicles on a regular basis, too. In 2023, one- to five-year-old Ford Explorer models accounted for 1.5 percent of all used vehicle sales in the U.S. – ninth most of all models, according to iSeeCars. In 2024, the Ford Explorer once again cracked the top 10 on that same list.

According to iSeeCars, the Ford Explorer was the eighth most popular one- to five-year-old used vehicle of 2024, as that SUV accounted for 1.6 percent of all models falling within that range that changed hands last year. That ranked the Explorer behind only the first-place Ford F-150, the Chevy Silverado, Ram 1500, Chevy Equinox, Toyota Camry, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Rogue, while the Toyota RAV4 and Honda Civic rounded out the top 10. To come up with these rankings, iSeeCars analyzed over 7.7 million used car sales from the last five model years (2019-2023) in 2024. Each model’s share of used car sales was calculated nationally, as well as within each metro area and state. Heavy-duty vehicles were excluded from the analysis.

In addition to this ranking, the Ford Explorer also landed on the list of Carvana’s best-selling used vehicles in 2024, too. The Ford Explorer ranked fifth on that particular list this time around, behind only the Tesla Model 3, Chevy Equinox, Nissan Rogue, and Ford Escape. The Ford Explorer also beat out the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Nissan Altima, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Ford F-150 SuperCrew to round out the rankings.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2021 Ford Explorer, specifically, landed on the Fall 2024 version of the bi-annual Consumer Reports list of the most popular used vehicles on the market, based on the used model pages on its own site that drive the most traffic, meaning that they’re the most searched-for used vehicles overall. Further helping its case is the fact that the Ford Explorer has seen the fourth-largest decrease in terms of average pricing for used examples over the past year – a 7.4 percent decline, from $34,667 to $32,105, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. So this news means that new Explorer buyers exchange it sooner than for other vehicles. Is it that bad? I keep my vehicles for at least ten years and for over twenty.
