Over the years, YouTuber Cody Detwiler of the WhistlinDiesel channel has stirred up his fair share of controversy, and for good reason – he goes out and buys what are oftentimes expensive and/or desirable vehicles and then destroys them, all in the name of views. Oftentimes, there’s no real value to this type of thing – other than pure entertainment, for those that enjoy such activities – but Detwiler’s recent durability test featuring a Ford F-150 and Tesla Cybertruck was quite eye-opening, and resulted in an easy win for the Blue Oval pickup. Now, Detwiler is back with part two in that particular series.
The first durability test of these two trucks was quite brutal, to say the least, and left both the Ford F-150 and Tesla Cybertruck in need of extensive repairs – which cost nearly $12k for the latter. For the second go-round, the first test involves a tug-of-war competition with some extra weight in the bed of the Ford F-150 to even things out, and it actually ended in a bit of a tie. For the second test, the crew loads an entire pallet of cinder blocks in the bed of each truck, and after jumping the F-150, the driveshaft wound up, well, detaching itself from the vehicle.
However, the F-150 still came out on top in that particular test as the Cybertruck lost an entire wheel during the process, meaning that it once again had to head back to Tesla for some repairs. Things were so bad that the automaker made Detwiler sign a waiver informing him that the truck was unsafe to use or operate, but of course, that doesn’t deter him. Rather, he proceeds to drive both trucks through some deep water, and this time around, the Cybertruck actually claims a victory as the F-150 winds up submerged – and in need of some help.
Ultimately, the Cybertruck ended experiencing some major steering issues shortly thereafter, however, while the Ford F-150 managed to start right back up (after Detwiler filled the engine bay with rice) and drive down the road at speed – giving it the victory yet again – in spite of the horrific abuse it’s been subjected to.
Comment
I didn’t hear them say what engine was in the F-150. At first glance I thought it might be a Lighting, as that would be the most apples-to-apples comparison, but they made comments about how Elon said an electric motor can beat an ice engine.
