The Ford Kuga has long been a popular target among European shoppers, particularly in plug-in hybrid guise – in fact, the Kuga PHEV topped those sales charts in Europe in both 2023 and the first half of 2024. Among all Ford Kuga sales across Europe, the PHEV accounted for a whopping 44 percent of that tally in 2023, in fact, which is a substantial figure, indeed. Coming off a refresh for the 2024 model year, the Kuga continued its sales momentum in one particular European country last year as well – the Netherlands.
The Ford Kuga PHEV officially topped the PHEV sales charts in the Netherlands for 2024, marking the fourth straight year it has done precisely that. The crossover also set a new personal sales record after moving 4,123 units last year, too. “The Ford Kuga has been a success with our European customers since its market launch in 2008. The new Kuga is the best ever and it’s nice to see that Dutch car buyers also appreciate that,” said Thomas van der Meer, Director of Passenger Vehicles, Ford Netherlands.
Along with updated exterior styling that mimics what we’ve received with the refreshed 2023 Ford Escape, the latest version of the Ford Kuga features a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen inside the cabin running Sync 4, along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Kuga features the updated Blue Oval badge up front, coupled with a light bar for its trio of trim levels – Titanium, ST-Line, and the brand new Active, the latter of which adds plastic cladding, a slightly higher ride height, and Trail mode for excursions that might take place off the pavement.
In terms of powertrains, shoppers get a handful of interesting choices – the 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost making 148 horsepower mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the 2.5L hybrid powertrain producing either 177 horsepower in front-wheel drive guise or 180 horsepower for all-wheel drive variants, and the PHEV, which gives the 2.5L gas/electric combination an output of 240 horsepower – 30 more than the Escape PHEV, notably, as well as 43 miles of electric-only driving range on the WLTP cycle.
