Ford Mustang Factory Matte Clear Film: Option Spotlight

Matte paint is an excellent way to enhance any vehicle’s looks, offering a sportier, distinctive element that stands out amid the sea of glossy and metallic finishes. In fact, matte colors have become a trend as of late, prompting The Blue Oval to introduce matte colors to certain models in its lineup. Take the seventh-generation Ford Mustang, for example. The pony car offers a matte clear film right from the factory, and today, Ford Authority is putting this spiffy option in the spotlight.

First introduced for the 2024 model year, the Ford Mustang matte clear film is available on all trims, including EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse. Initially, this option wasn’t offered on convertible models at launch, but as of the 2025 model year, buyers of both the coupe and drop-top variants can add matte clear film to their pony cars for $5995. It’s also available in conjunction with each of the Mustang’s 11 color options, adding a satin finish to any Mustang hue.

Not only does the Ford Mustang matte clear film offer a unique finish to any paint, it offers enhanced paint protection when compared to vinyl wraps and is backed by Ford’s standard factory warranty.

But despite its wide color availability, equipping the matte clear film limits the exterior accent options that can be added to the 2025 Mustang. It’s not available with the Over-The-Top racing stripe, and requires the spoiler delete option be selected (unless equipped in conjunction with the Nite Pony Package). Buyers who opt for the California Special Package can’t add matte film to their Mustang. It’s also unable to be added alongside any graphics or stripes, including the standard Mustang Dark Horse hood graphic.

“Mustang has been about driving freedom and freedom of expression for 60 years, and our new Matte Clear Film provides a whole new way for customers to make Mustang their own,” said Laurie Transou, Mustang Chief Program Engineer, when the feature was launched.

The Ford Mustang isn’t the only model in The Blue Oval’s stable to benefit from the optional matte film. It’s also offered on the rugged 2025 Ford Bronco as a $4,995 option.
