Ford Mustang Mach-E Rival From Chrysler Put On Ice

Back in January 2022, Chrysler revealed its new Airflow Concept, all while announcing that it planned to go all-electric by 2028. That crossover concept was designed to provide a glimpse at the brand’s all-electric future, which was slated to begin with the launch of its very first EV in 2025 as a direct Ford Mustang Mach-E rival. However, a lot has changed over the past three years or so – and Chrysler, along with its parent company Stellantis, is struggling a bit at the moment – seemingly serving as the driving factor behind putting this new model on ice.

According to Mopar Insiders, the future Chrysler model – which has been under development via the codename C6X (CA) – has been suspended. The new EV was slated to be built alongside the Dodge Charger Daytona at the Windsor Assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, but Chrysler recently informed its suppliers that “the C6X (CA) program has been put on hold until further notice. Therefore, any spending associated with this program should be suspended immediately.”

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the production version of the Chrysler Airflow has been canceled altogether, but it certainly isn’t good news for anyone that’s been waiting for the all-electric crossover to arrive. However, it’s also not terribly surprising given the rough 2024 that Stellantis, in general, experienced, as the automaker posted disappointing sales and profit results while simultaneously drawing the ire of dealers amid soaring inventory levels – all of which culminated with the resignation of CEO Carlos Tavares in early December.

Stellantis also opted to push back the launch of its Ford F-150 Lightning rival, the all-electric Ram 1500 REV from the first half of 2025 to 2026 as it plans to prioritize production of the extended-range EV variant dubbed the Ram 1500 Ramcharger instead. In the meantime, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E soldiers on with a variety of notable changes for the new model year, including the addition of a new standard heat pump.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  3. How is this company still around. The government bailed them out twice, they still produce crap, but enough idiots are out there buying their products.

    1. They were fine before Stellantis came around.

  4. Hardly a surprise. Stellantis has been behind the EV 8-ball all along. I wouldn’t be surprised if they give up a couple of marques; maybe even Chrysler (keeping Dodge and Ram).

    1. Or sell all Chrysler brands to Frank Rhodes, the great-grandson of Walter Chrysler, Rhodes understands Chrysler much better than Stellantis. The longer Stellantis owns Chrysler, the more likely all Chrysler brands will be extinct around 2030.
