Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake Now Available In South Africa

The all-new S650 generation Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake was unveiled last April as the very first new-gen pony car to wear a Shelby badge, sporting a rather long list of upgrades in every conceivable area. At that time, Shelby American noted that it planned on building 300 units of the new Super Snake for U.S. customers, along with an unspecified quantity for other markets. We then learned that the S650 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake would be sold in the UK, and now, The Blue Oval has announced that it will be available in South Africa, too.

Ford Mustang models destined for South Africa will be delivered to the Shelby Mod Shop in Malmesbury, Western Cape, for final assembly. Shelby South Africa has been allocated three conversion kits to transform the Mustangs into Shelby Super Snakes, as part of the initial batch, each with a price tag of at least R3,640,000 ($192,347 USD). Otherwise, the Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake destined for that country is basically identical to its American counterpart, and can be had in either coupe or convertible form.

That means the pony car gets a wider front fascia and unique grille, a front splitter and splitter wickers, an aluminum Super Snake hood, hood pins, carbon fiber hood extractors, carbon fiber wide body front fenders with vents, a rear ducktail spoiler (or carbon fiber Super Snake wing for coupes), a carbon fiber rear diffuser, and Super Snake stripes and badging. The look is capped off by a set of forged magnesium wheels, and customers can choose from six base colors and four stripe options, to boot. The same goes for the interior, which has been treated to a host of Shelby-branded items such as the floor mats, shifter ball (for manual transmission models), door sills, the serialized dash plaque, and puddle lamps, and on drop tops, a convertible light bar.

A supercharger system for the 5.0L V8 Coyote powerplant, coupled with Shelby’s extreme cooling system and a Shelby/Borla exhaust, results in a significant output of 830 horsepower, according to the tuner. To ensure that this power can get to the ground effectively, the Shelby Super Snake also features performance half shafts, a one-piece driveshaft and short throw shifter for manuals, hardened extended wheel studs, and unique Shelby performance-spec tires.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
