Ford Of Europe Makes Personnel Changes Amid Turnaround Efforts

It’s no secret that Ford of Europe is facing its fair share of monumental challenges at the moment, many of these related to weak passenger vehicle sales in that region, as well as soft demand for the company’s all-electric vehicles. Last November, Ford of Europe announced that it would be trimming 4,000 jobs in Europe and the UK by the end of 2027 as a result, all while dialing back production of the Explorer and Capri EV models at the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center in Germany. Now, Ford of Europe is making more personnel changes as it works to turn things around.

For starters, Ford of Europe has announced that Dr. Christian Weingärtner has been named as its new Vice President of Europe Business Transformation, where he will be responsible for the transformation of all business lines. In his new role, Weingärtner will report directly to John Lawler, Vice Chair and Chief Financial Officer of Ford Motor Company. Weingärtner has been with Ford since 2020. Prior to his position as Managing Director and Managing Director Marketing and Sales for Ford Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, he helped develop the automaker’s business in Europe as Director, Strategy, Autonomous Vehicles & Mobility.

Meanwhile, Christoph Herr will serve as FoMoCo’s Managing Director of Ford Germany, Austrian, and Switzerland after he was previously responsible for the service and parts business in the entire DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) as Director of the Ford Service Organization (FCSD). Prior to joining The Blue Oval, Herr led the Digital Solutions division at MAN Truck & Bus and the associated digitalization of core processes in sales and aftersales, as well as the further development of digital fleet management solutions.

Facing a bleak future in Europe, Ford remains adamant that it needs robust government incentives to help spur EV sales, both in that region and the United Kingdom. In the meantime, the company will focus on its successful Ford Pro commercial business in that part of the world, which has proven to be quite profitable at the moment even as the passenger vehicle business is suffering.

  2. When are these idiots going to correlate “soft demand for electric vehicles” and a need for government with subsidiaries with reality. Build ICE automobiles and sell them. Incompetent government clowns and idealogues trying to force electric vehicles down our throats hasn’t worked and isn’t going to work. Build a portion for those who want them and get over it.
