The Ford Authority Take

Advertising is a massive source of revenue for many companies these days, as well as a way to get the word out about various products. However, the ways in which companies choose to advertise products has changed quite a bit in recent years as well – in many cases, taking over for more traditional methods. As such, Ford has filed patents for ideas such as a system displaying ads and images on vehicle windows – which caused quite the stir, prompting a response from the automaker itself reminding us that patents don’t always become reality. Now, this newly published patent presents us with an idea for a shuttle services advertising system that may be used on future Ford vehicles, too.

Ford Patent Shuttle Services Advertising System

With certain autonomous Ford vehicles already being used to shuttle passengers around places like Detroit, this patent aims to capitalize by providing businesses with a way to advertise their services and goods on those same sorts of vehicles. If it comes to fruition, this system would first receive a ride request from a user, after which it would take offers from businesses potentially interested in advertising to that consumer. If the business accepts, it would pay a select fee to do precisely that, and the route would be influenced based on points of interest along the route.

The idea here seems to revolve around the concept of selling a new sort of advertising to businesses, specifically, those that are located near a typical shuttle drop off location, or at least, along a popular route for such services. It’s an interesting concept for certain – and one that Ford notes could be tracked in terms of return on investment – making it seemingly viable for use, if it ultimately comes to fruition.
