Ford pickup sales, which includes the Ford Maverick, Ford Ranger, Ford F-Series, and all-electric F-150 Lighting, grew 23 percent to 252,486 units during the fourth quarter of 2024 in the United States.
Sales of the F-Series (see running Ford F-Series sales) increased 23 percent to 204,111 units; these includes the F-150 light duty and Super Duty heavy duty truck lines. The Maverick compact pickup (see running Ford Maverick sales) saw sales drop 20 percent to 22,146 units, outselling the larger Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales) midsize pickup, which saw sales leap nearly 19-fold to 15,526 units as the all-new model navigated a generational changeover. The F-150 Lighting (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales) full-size pickup saw sales fall 10 percent to 10,703 units as the EV truck’s plant was idled from November into 2025 amid slower-than-expected demand.

The Ford Authority Take
Once again, Ford pickup sales moved over a quarter million units during Q4 2024. While only two models were in the green during the quarter, it was the right one that was up. As you may have guessed, we’re referring to the F-Series range, which is crucial to the health of the Ford Motor Company. In fact, we posit that there wouldn’t be a Ford today without the highly popular pickup truck range. Hence, it’s vital for the automaker to continue the success of its most lucrative and best-selling product line.
About Ford F-150
In September 2023, the refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 debuted featuring a new Pro Access Tailgate and standard EcoBoost. The range-topping Limited has now been replaced by the Platinum Plus, while the STX becomes its own trim level rather than an optional package, and each model receives its own unique styling updates and interior themes.
The full 2024 F-150 trim level lineup, then, includes the base model XL along with STX, XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch, plus Platinum and the new range-topping Platinum Plus, joined by the off-road-focused Tremor and Raptor/Raptor R.
Powertrain-wise, the previously standard 3.3L V6 is gone, replaced by the turbocharged Ford 2.7L V6 EcoBoost across the lineup. In an effort to boost sales, the 3.5L V6 PowerBoost hybrid is now a no-cost option over the standard, twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost, as well. Notably, the 2024 F-150 hybrid gets a clever upgrade for a smoother ride.

About Ford Super Duty
The 2024 Ford Super Duty arrives with a few small changes over the refreshed 2023 Ford Super Duty. One notable update is that 2024 Super Duty XL and XLT trim levels get Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch features. For 2023, the option was only available on the Lariat trim and up.
The 2025 Ford Super Duty offers some changes to the trim level lineup along with some shuffling around in terms of standard powertrains. That includes the 2025 Super Duty Platinum trim level getting a bit of its own refresh for the new model year, which adds a new Platinum Plus Package, which replaces the Limited trim, providing special touches coupled with a special ownership experience.
Notably, for 2025, the Lariat gets ActiveX synthetic seating material. Consequently, customers who want a leather interior will need to opt for a higher trim level such as the King Ranch or Platinum. The 2025 model also ditches the Sport Package for the Black Appearance Package.
The latest FoMoCo model to get rid of the factory SecuriCode keypad, the 2025 Super Duty has also ditched a handful of configurations that include the SuperCab with a 148-inch wheelbase, SuperCab Lariat models, and SuperCab F-350 and F-450 dual rear wheel pickups. In terms of powertrains, the gas 6.8L V8 is now standard equipment on the XL, XLT, and Lariat trims, while the gas 7.3L V8 is standard on the King Ranch and Platinum. The 2025 model adds trailer tire pressure monitoring packages as dealer-installed options.
About Ford Ranger
In May 2023, the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger debuted with all-new tech and a 2.7L V6 EcoBoost. The carryover turbocharged Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost gasoline engine produces 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, while the new, optional twin-turbocharged Ford 2.7L V6 EcoBoost generates 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Both are mated exclusively to the Ford 10-speed automatic transmission, giving the new Ranger a payload capacity of up to 1,805 pounds and a max towing limit of 7,500 pounds.
The 2024 Ranger also debuts the high-performance Ranger Raptor, powered by the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, which will be sold in the U.S. for the very first time after existing in international markets for years now. The engine is rated at 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel, sending power to the wheels via Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, an electronically-controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case, and front- and rear-locking differentials.
That means the 2024 Ford Ranger line-up is offered in XL, XLT, Lariat, and Raptor trim levels.
In addition to new styling inside and out along with a handful of other major changes, the 2024 Ranger nearly matches the EPA fuel economy ratings of its predecessor, as Ford Authority recently reported.
About Ford Maverick
The refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick officially debuts with Ford Sync 4, hybrid all-wheel drive, and an updated design, along with the first-ever 2025 Maverick Lobo as an all-new performance pickup. Interestingly, the Maverick Lobo uses the Ford Edge ST’s 7-speed transmission.
Furthermore, the 2025 Maverick Tremor gets upgraded to pickup’s top trim rather than as an optional upgrade package.
The 2025 Maverick drops four exterior colors and the Lariat as well as EcoBoost ditch front-wheel drive, with the turbocharged engine now only available with all-wheel drive. Notably, the 2025 Maverick EcoBoost is much cheaper than Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport 2.0L models, but down 12 horsepower thanks to the addition of a new gas particulate filter to meet emissions requirements. It also gains advanced trailer tech in February.
Here is a guide to every 2025 Maverick package, plus paint colors, the interior colorways, and available wheels. Check out a photo gallery of the XLT, the Lobo, and the Lariat, along with a guide to every grille.
As Ford Authority can exclusively report, the 2025 Maverick Hybrid AWD can be flat towed.
About Ford F-150 Lightning
For 2024, the Ford F-150 Lightning drops two configurations while adding a new Flash trim level to slot above the XLT trim, bundling tech upgrades and the extended range battery at a more reasonable price. On the other end of the spectrum, The Blue Oval debuted the Platinum Black trim, with the F-150 Lightning being the first production Ford truck to feature a matte wrap.
Additionally, the 2024 F-150 Lightning gains ActiveX seating for the Lariat trim, and the entire 2024 lineup gets a heat pump as standard, while dropping Active Park Assist 2.0.
At the beginning of the year, the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear debuted as a new demonstrator off-road performance EV pickup that channels the spirit of the Raptor. The project is yet another collaboration between RTR and Ford Performance.
