Ford Plans To Increase Production Of Entry Level Trims

New vehicle affordability has suffered tremendously over the past few years amid soaring inflation, and consumers have watched as the prices of those vehicles have skyrocketed to alarmingly high levels. Making matters worse, many automakers gave up on building and selling entry-level vehicles years ago, leaving budget-conscious shoppers with few options in that regard. Ford is reportedly working on a number of new, lower-cost models to help rectify this issue, but in the meantime, it’s also planning to ramp up production of its existing entry-level trims as well.

According to Automotive News, Ford recently told its dealers that it will not only relaunch base trims of certain models in response to demand for cheaper vehicles, but also, it intends to increase production of its cheaper trims, too. That list includes the Ford F-150, Ford Escape, and Ford Explorer, while as Ford Authority previously reported, the automaker is also bringing back the Base trim of the Ford Bronco for the 2025 model year after it was absent for 2024.

On top of these moves, Ford intends to launch a new advertising campaign centered around the Ford Maverick and Ford Bronco Sport very soon, as both of those models feature starting price tags of less than $30k. “We want to show customers who want to shop under $30,000 that Ford has two amazing products in that price range and you don’t have to compromise your lifestyle,” said Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Ford Escape was treated to a round of price cuts across the board for the new model year, ranging from $1,000 to $2,100, depending on the trim level. The same is mostly true of the 2025 Ford F-150, though only certain trims – the STX, XLT, and Lariat – received price cuts in that pickup’s lineup. In the meantime, Ford has been working on developing a new low-cost EV platform set to underpin multiple future models, starting with a mid-size pickup.

  1. Meh, it helps but not a lot. Instead of decontenting, now we’ll have extreme decontenting. That’s NOT the solution. Trax isn’t decontented, ahem.

  3. Sad. The root issue is overpriced option packages (justified by marketing) and forcing options as a ‘package’ in the first place with no base option. Lesson – see how that worked out for ram. Not a vehicle issue, forced to pay 2k for a $150 option as is…..live with what you sow. bundled and not optional vs standalone, means the overpaid workers can’t assemble. Always used to do it, can now? Hmmmmm….

  4. Ford has got nothing that competes with the new Chevy Trax, thats why its selling out at dealerships and is winning awards for quality and design. Plus it looks sharp, the Escape looks like Stevie Wonder did the design. One of the ugliest vehicles ever produced by Ford. Go look at the content in a Trax for $25K. The Trax also doesn’t have 5 outstanding recalls on it with parts on backorder for 18 months.

    1. Looks almost identical to the Ford Escape I own. Mine is a Titanium Hybrid AWD. Trax has some of the same features. Some of what I have are optional and some not available on the Trax. Also differences in the performance features. Most of the recalls have to do with software issues not mechanical.

    2. Bob I like the looks of the Escape, except for the back end which I would have extended 6 to 12 inches. But looks are a personal item, so we’ll let that one slide. But to compare a 1.2L ‘3-banger’ FWD only to the 250 hp EcoBoost 2.0L AWD Escape is like comparing a golf cart to a Mustang Cobra. Cars should be fun to drive. If you want to spend 5 or 6 years paying off a kitchen stool on wheels, then that’s your choice, but I prefer something fun and interesting – although I’ll admit that’s harder to find these days – that is also practical for trips to the store to re-up my supply of bread, milk, and Cheerios.

Both Ford and GM should and do offer entry-level vehicles; but to say the Trax is superior is just unrealistic.

  5. Rather ironic. Ford claims it’s not going to build any more “commodity vehicles”–but people are balking at ridiculously high vehicle prices so guess what? More commodity vehicles, although Ford has one, count it one, traditional passenger car plus a slew of trucks and SUVS…

  6. Maverick needs a “Base” trim too. Demand is making it too expensive.

    1. The xl maverick is pretty basic by today’s standards. I’m very pleased with my 2024 xl, but I had a one year wait for it.

  7. Bring back the Focus! We’ve had two. Great cars and trouble free. The Escape is basically a Focus dresses up as a soft crossover. Stupid. Give me a Focus with a manual transmission. And how about a true XL level F-150. Regular or Extended cab. Crank up windows. Bench seat. Manual transmission and bring back the 3.7 NA V6. My nephew just left the Navy and needs a car. He’s looking at 3-4 year old Tacoma’s and they’re all 25k or more. He’d love an F-150 but can’t swing 50 grand. A base extended cab with warranty would be really appealing at about 35k.

  8. EV’s are dead. DEAD. If they stop the large investments going in that direction they’ll be able to lower the inflated prices on vehicles ( purposely raised to fund the EV “transition” ) that people want to buy

  10. Crown Vic w/ AWD with Hybrid would be a real winner ! Talk about a full size sedan, also, Police departments would stock these models over the current offering from Stellantis.
