Ford Ranger Named 2025 North American Truck Of The Year

Last September, the Ford Ranger was named as one of five pickups that made the cut as semi-finalists for the truck portion of the 2025 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards – joining the the GMC Sierra EV, Ram 1500, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tacoma. The NACTOY jury then whittled that list down to three finalists – the Ford Ranger, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tacoma in November, meaning that we had to wait until today at the Detroit Auto Show to find out who the 2025 North American Truck of the Year winner would be. As it turns out, the Ford Ranger took home the prize, making it five straight NACTOY wins for The Blue Oval.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the Ford F-150 won NACTOY honors in 2021, followed by the Ford Maverick in 2022, the Ford F-150 Lightning in 2023, and the Ford Super Duty in 2024. Now, the Ford Ranger has won 2025 North American Truck of the Year, too. Each year, the NACTOY awards recognize the best new vehicles on the market, based on a variety of factors including innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value. To determine the winners, an independent jury of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada evaluate each model and provide their own feedback on those areas.

“The Ford Ranger starts at $34,575 and the well-equipped SuperCrew 4×4 XLT has a base price of $39,646. It’s a midsize truck that looks like a full-size F-150, has combined fuel economy of 20 mpg, and can tow 7,500 pounds,” said Drew Winter, Contributing Editor, WardsAuto. “It has a solid and refined chassis, a nice interior and is a good choice for budget-conscious buyers.”  “Ford’s expertise in building trucks is evident in the 2025 Ranger that offers plenty of utility plus an added dose of comfort and convenience,” added Jack Nerad, America on the Road Radio, Sports Byline Radio Network.

“Earning this recognition celebrates our team’s dedication to continuously raising the bar for midsize truck customers,” said Jim Baumbick, vice president, Advanced Product Development, Cycle Plan, and Programs. “We rigorously tested Ranger in challenging environments around the world to deliver the Built Ford Tough durability our customers demand. This award is a tribute to our customers who inspire us every day.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
