The Ford SuperVan 4.2 is a testament to The Blue Oval’s electric performance prowess. With a dizzying 2,000 horsepower and around 4,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph at its disposal, the SuperVan 4.2 is one lean, mean, racing machine, and we’re highlighting Ford’s feat of electric engineering in the following photo gallery.
The Ford SuperVan 4.2 is the latest in a line of Ford Transit-inspired race cars spanning almost 50 years, and the second to be powered by an all-electric drivetrain. Its predecessor was the electric SuperVan 4 (also known as the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan), which debuted in 2022 and was developed in collaboration between Ford Performance and auto racing team STARD. STARD and Ford Performance renewed their partnership to rebuild the SuperVan 4 from the ground up, and thus, the SuperVan 4.2 was born in 2023.
Right away, it was clear that the Ford SuperVan 4.2 had some serious mettle. Turned loose in the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the all-electric racing van galloped up the tough mountain in 8:47.682, in sole possession of the Pikes Peak Open Division trophy.
The Ford SuperVan’s next competition run brought it to Mount Panorama in February 2024. No stranger to mountains, the SuperVan conquered Bathurst with a trio of new lap records to its name, wiping out the standing records for closed-wheel vehicles, electric vehicles, and commercial vehicles with its 1:56.3247 lap at 186 mph. It went on to win the 2024 Goodwood Hill Climb, laying down a blistering 43.978-second lap around the 1.16-mile course, beating its next closest competitor by almost three seconds.
More recently, the Ford SuperVan took on the Top Gear Test Track. With the legendary driver “the Stig” behind the wheel this time, the SuperVan outperformed several exotic competitors, beating the McLaren 720S GT3X, Pagani Zonda R, Aston Martin DBR9, Caparo T1, Ferrari FXX, and Koenigsegg Jesko Attack with its 1:05.3-second lap.
