Ford To Launch Technician Training Center In Texas

The automotive industry has made it quite clear that it’s facing a potentially huge shortage of technicians in the near future, and as such, Ford is working to help prevent that from happening. Over the past couple of years, Ford has launched a number of scholarship programs for future techs, and has partnered with a host of organizations, non-profits, and dealers in an effort to satisfy future demand for automotive technicians. Now, those efforts continue as Ford has announced that it will open a new technician training center in Texas, too.

According to Express News, this new Ford service technician training center is set to open in the suburban San Antonio area, and is designed to help beef up the number of future auto techs to meet an ever-growing need for such services. The new center will join 28 other such facilities that are already in operation across the U.S., though additional details remain scant at the moment. Ford hasn’t revealed when the center will open, but it has already secured the necessary permits, and plans to invest $2.1 million to erect the 13,500 square feet space, a project that’s expected to be finished in August.

“At this facility, technicians from Ford and Lincoln dealerships will attend in-person training to expand their skill set to diagnose and repair Ford and Lincoln vehicles,” the automaker said in a statement. The move comes at a crucial time for the sector, as the National Automobile Dealers Association estimates that 76,000 techs are leaving the industry each year, while only 39,000 graduates are joining the workforce annually.

In addition to opening new technician training centers, Ford also recently teamed up with Hireology – a talent acquisition and hiring technology outfit – to provide both Ford and Lincoln dealers with the resources they need to build out their team of techs across the U.S. in the coming months and years, a program that will lean on Hireology’s systems. These resources include the company’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which includes interview guides, templates, and actionable insights, as well as Customized Career Sites that offer content designed to attract new candidates and showcase dealership culture.
