Ford Tourneo Custom Joins North Rhine-Westphalia Police Fleet

The passenger-focused Ford Tourneo Custom has long been a popular model across all of Europe, along with its more cargo carrying-focused Transit Custom counterpart. At the same time, the Ford Pro commercial business continues to grow by leaps and bounds across the entire globe, and that’s particularly true in Germany. This is precisely why The Blue Oval will focus on that part of its business in Europe moving forward as it struggles in terms of moving passenger vehicles and EVs in that region, and now, one German police department has added the Ford Tourneo Custom to its own fleet.

That department is the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior, which just ordered 400 Ford Tourneo Custom vans to add to its emergency vehicle fleet, though it has been relying on Blue Oval models since 2019.  Each of those vehicles is powered by the EcoBlue diesel engine churning out 125 kW (170 horsepower), mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive. The recently-redesigned model has become a favorite among law enforcement thanks to its copious amount of space inside the cabin, as well as loads of cargo room in the rear of the five-passenger models.

These particular police-specific versions of the Ford Tourneo Custom also come equipped with things like emergency lighting and the Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System, coupled with an interface module that enables over 200 specialized conversion companies licensed by Ford Pro direct access to the vehicle’s on-board electrical system. Ford will deliver the first Tourneo Custom for police in NRW in the fourth quarter of 2025, which is currently using more than 1,200 Ford S-Max models.

“The fact that the police in North Rhine-Westphalia continue to rely on Ford vehicles as patrol cars underlines the quality and reliability of our models,” said Claudia Vogt, Director of Ford Pro for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. “Our new Ford Tourneo Custom models not only offer the emergency services a lot of space and a lot of comfort, but also comprehensive driving safety and assistance systems as well as an extremely sporty driving behavior for a vehicle in its class – so the patrol officers will not be easily dependent.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. That’s a nice small-sized van. I keep seeing some very attractive vehicles from Ford that will never be available here in the States. That’s also true for other brands. If I were Suzuki (the founder passed away recently and was given a very serious praise for his leadership and successful products) I would bring back their smaller and more affordable vehicles to America. No one seems to want to be in that market. For a variety of reasons this could be growing market here.
