Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a fluid and capacity communication system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on June 29th, 2023, published on January 2nd, 2024, and assigned serial number 0002328.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has published quite a few patents outlining ideas for various fluid storage containers and systems in recent months, interestingly enough. These ideas include things like a thermal enclosure assembly that would be able to heat or cool fluids, a heated underbody fuel tank, and a fluid storage container, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent introduces us to an idea for a fluid and capacity communication system that may possibly wind up in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in this patent, vehicles tend to use all different kinds of fluids, and these can vary greatly by model, too. As such, it sees a need for a system that would dispense the proper fluid for a specific model – such as fuel, for example, as certain vehicles can run on lower octane fuel while others require premium, and we’ve all seen folks put diesel fuel in regular ICE models, as well as the other way around – actions that can potentially ruin an engine.
Thus, this proposed system would be able to identify the specific fluid requirements for a vehicle, as well as how much capacity it has for that specific fluid, whether it be gas or oil or anything else. From there, the system could determine which fluids are compatible with that vehicle, activate a dispenser, and then monitor the filling process. Such an idea makes a lot of sense given the fact that many modern day vehicle owners aren’t exactly well-versed when it comes to things like oil viscosity or fuel types, making it potentially useful for future Ford vehicles, if it does indeed come to fruition.
