Fox Body Ford Mustang Kit Enables Keyless Entry: Video

Late Model Restorations (LMR) is a frontrunner in the world of aftermarket enhancements for classic vehicles. They’ve played with their fare share of Blue Oval machinery, throwing the likes of a restored Ford Mustang GT on the dyno as well as a bone stock Ford F-150 Raptor R to find out where they stand in the power department. They also seem to have a soft spot for the Fox Body Ford Mustang – and now, LMR has released a keyless entry kit to help owners adapt their pony cars with a modern touch.

Offered on LMR’s website and appropriately named the FoxLox Keyless Entry System, this aftermarket add-on is a plug-and-play option for any Fox Body Ford Mustang belonging to the 1985 through 1993 model years. The kit costs $199 and includes everything a Fox Body owner needs to install the keyless entry system, plus two key fobs that closely resemble Ford’s own key fobs from the early 2010s.

There is some assembly (and disassembly) required, but LMR makes things easy with an installation tutorial video for the FoxLox system. Their subject is a 1990 Fox Body Ford Mustang. They recommend removing the driver’s seat for more space, then removing the kick panel, steering column trim, and dash trim. This exposes the proper wiring harness, where the FoxLox harness and module can then be installed. There’s also an optional companion app, which can be programmed to turn a smartphone into a virtual key fob.

Each key fob also includes a blank switch key, which can be keyed to a particular Fox Body Ford Mustang ignition. As of this writing, the FoxLox has a 4.4-star rating with mostly positive comments (although one user remarks that it’s not compatible with aftermarket wiring harnesses).

While not every Mustang enthusiast’s favorite generation, the Fox Body Ford Mustang has acquired a bit of a cult fandom in recent years. In fact, Steeda recently recommitted itself to producing aftermarket performance parts for the third-gen Mustang, while Ford itself came out with a retro-inspired car cover for the pony car.
