Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a head-up display with points of interest (POI) built in that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on June 20th, 2023, published on December 26th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0336195.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has published a handful of patents recently that aim to provide drivers with more information while they’re out tooling around, many of which lean on artificial intelligence or other types of modern tech. That includes filings for a multifunction car visor system, head-up displays with external projection systems, and a multi-plane augmented reality image generating system, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a new idea for a head-up display with points of interest (POI) built right in.
Head-up displays are becoming more and more common in newer vehicles and are a nice feature in that they provide drivers with important information that’s displayed right in their line of sight, so they don’t have to take their eyes off the road to see things like the speed they’re traveling or even GPS directions. Here, Ford imagines that some would also like to have points of interest displayed in that manner as well, and this system would present those based on which direction the user’s eyes are looking at any given moment.
Such a system could be useful for those that are on a road trip and may be interested in stopping at various points of interest, or perhaps even those that are driving in an area that they aren’t familiar with at all. Rather than trying to look on a map or screen – or one’s smartphone – the driver could simply gaze around and receive information in real-time, a feature that could prove rather intriguing for those types of scenarios, if this system ultimately comes to fruition.
