New Ford Mustang Mach-E Demonstrator To Tackle Pikes Peak In 2025

Ford decided that it wanted to get serious about the iconic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb a couple of years ago, and with that series having been dominated by EVs as of late, the automaker immediately went that route as well. The results of those efforts have certainly paid off, as the automaker set a new class record in 2023 and just missed out on an overall win, but followed up that strong effort by posting the quickest time up the mountain and claiming the overall victory in 2024. Now, The Blue Oval has announced that it will once again be taking on Pikes Peak, but this time, it’s doing so in a brand new Ford Mustang Mach-E EV demonstrator.

After FoMoCo debuted the new Mach-E NASCAR prototype this morning, we’ve been treated to a mere teaser of this new Ford Mustang Mach-E one-off racer, with a single shadowy image of its wild bodywork designed to provide maximum downforce as it rockets up Pikes Peak. However, what we do know is that driver Romain Dumas will once again be behind the wheel, which is good news for the automaker’s chances, given his recent success at the century-plus-old event.

At the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Dumas was behind the wheel of the SuperVan 4.2, a wild hillclimb monster that churns out a whopping 1,400 horsepower from three electric motors with a body inspired by Ford Pro’s newest E-Transit Custom van. That year, Dumas – the current record holder for the fastest-ever Pikes Peak hillclimb – took home a win in the Pikes Peak Open Division with a time of 8:47.682, which also happened to be a new record for that class by nearly 40 seconds. Even better, the SuperVan came in second place overall.

The very next year, Dumas was back in the also-new Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, and he charged up Pikes Peak in a blazing time of 8:53.553, which was the quickest of all 61 competitors that year, giving him the overall win. Prior to that, the SuperTruck also set a new qualifying record for the open class with a time of 3:32.831 – over seven seconds faster than the previous mark set by the SuperVan 4.2.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
