New Ford V8 Production Line Being Added To Essex Engine Plant

As Ford Authority previously reported, The Blue Oval will be producing the Ford Super Duty at its Oakville Assembly plant in Canada starting in 2026, a decision that followed the cancelation of plans to build a pair of new all-electric crossovers at that same facility. Ford expects to produce around 100,000 Super Duty trucks annually in Oakville following a $3 billion dollar investment in that facility, a move that will also add 1,800 jobs at the Oakville plant and 150 more at the Windsor Engine Complex to build V8 engines for that model. As a result, Ford is also adding a new V8 production line at its Essex Engine plant, too.

According to the Windsor Star, Ford is moving forward with its plans to expand the Essex Engine plant to support Super Duty production in Oakville, and is currently performing cement work in a vacant portion of the facility that will soon house a new V8 engine line. That new line will provide the automaker with the capacity it needs to support this ramp up for the Super Duty, as output currently lags a bit behind demand for the ultra-popular pickup – even though it’s already being built at two other facilities. The new line will produce the 7.3L V8 Godzilla engine, as well as the 6.7L V8 Power Stroke diesel, joining the 5.0L V8 Coyote that’s already built at Essex.

“They can’t make them fast enough,” said Unifor Local 200 president John D’Agnolo, who added Ford will begin hiring the new workers in May 2026. “They need more capacity. They need these engines for the Super Duty trucks. It’s their most profitable vehicles and best seller. Oakville becomes operational in 2026, but we’ll need to stockpile engines for them before that. Windsor is blessed supplying all these engines and we’re the only ones producing them for Ford. They need them for both Kentucky and Oakville and putting in that line means more jobs in this country. It’s a reflection of the quality product we continue to put out.”

Ford is moving forward with these expansion plans amid concerns that President Donald Trump could implement tariffs on goods imported into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico, a move that he hinted at making as early as February – though that may simply serve as a negotiating tactic with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) set to expire in 2026.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  9. I’m not sure the diesel is included in this new production plan. Other reports say the 6.8 and 7.3 gas engines, which makes more sense.
