No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 Victorious In 2025 Rolex 24

Last week, Ford Performance touted the Ford Mustang GT3, saying that the race-prepared pony would be right at home on the fabled infield road course at Daytona International Speedway once it was turned loose for the 2025 Rolex 24.  The No. 65 Mustang GT3, fielded by Multimatic Motorsports, went right out and proved that claim, outdueling a Corvette for the GTD Pro class win in the 24-hour marathon.

Of the 15 GTD Pro class entries, 10 of them led. The No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 was shared between Christopher Mies, Frederic Vervisch, and Dennis Olsen, beating the No. 3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Antonio Garcia, Alexander Sims, and Juan Juncadella across the stripe by less than two seconds. The No. 65 Mustang GT3 took the lead with less than 42 minutes on the clock after the race’s final restart was underway.

Olson had control of the No. 65 Mustang GT3 in the closing laps, fending off the No. 3 Corvette driven by Sims. Sims was under fire from the No. 64 Mustang GT3, driven by Sebastian Priaulx, holding up the Chevy competitor and allowing Olson to gap them both. He had an eye on the rearview, however, admitting after the race that he was worried about the Vette’s speed, along with that of the BMW.

“I think it is quite historical,” Vervisch said after the No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 celebrated in Victory Lane. “Yesterday we met [Ford CEO] Jim Farley and he said, ‘Whatever you do, you have to be in front of Chevrolet.’ He was joking, of course. They were extremely strong and so super proud to be ahead and perhaps out-strategize them.”

The victory marks the first global win for the Dark Horse-based Ford Mustang GT3 racer, which was introduced at the start of the 2024 racing season, and Ford’s 20th overall victory in the iconic race. The No. 3 Vette finished second, and the podium was rounded out by the No. 64 Mustang GT3, completing an all-around excellent race for The Blue Oval and kicking off the 2025 IMSA season on a high note.

“Moments like this make the long hours, hard work and earlier disappointments worthwhile,” said Ford Performance head Mark Rushbrook. “Our first global win with the Mustang GT3 and our 20th for Ford in the 24 Hours of Daytona is a milestone. I am proud of this whole effort. Everyone gave their all.”
