Two years ago, legendary rally driver for the Hoonigan Racing Division, Ken Block, tragically lost his life in a snowmobile accident in Utah. He left behind a legacy of “Gymkhana” racing videos online and a slew of rally vehicles with unmistakable liveries, many of which were from the Ford stable. The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California recently announced that it will soon open an exhibit honoring Block’s legacy.
The exhibit, called “People’s Champ: The Impact of Ken Block,” will open on February 15th, 2025. The display will include a display of “his most iconic vehicles,” along with memorabilia like racing suits, helmets, wheels, DC shoes, and Hoonigan merchandise from iconic moments throughout his career in motorsports.
“A motorsports icon and pioneer of automotive content in the age of online media, rally driver and DC Shoes co-founder Ken Block utilized his marketing acumen, driving expertise, and automotive enthusiasm to create the enormously popular Gymkhana video series and Hoonigan, an automotive lifestyle brand and production company that has captivated audiences for over a decade,” reads the exhibit’s description on the Petersen Automotive Museum website.
Block had a longstanding relationship with Ford before parting ways with The Blue Oval in 2021. That partnership produced 19 race wins, 17 podium finishes, a pair of X Games medals, just to name a few accolades. The Henry Ford Museum in Michigan acquired several of Block’s vehicles for display in 2021.
However, museums aren’t the only entities with the chance to grab one of Block’s racers for themselves. For example, the 1977 Ford F-150 Hoonitruck will sell at the ongoing Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. Other notable vehicles that have recently crossed the auction block include the 2016 Ford Focus RS RX made famous in Block’s Gymkhana 9: Raw Industrial Playground, as well as a 1990 Ford Mustang GT he built to teach his daughter, Lia, the finer points of drifting.
