Watch Max Verstappen Drive The Ford Mustang Dark Horse: Video

Red Bull Racing (RBR) has partnered with Ford to produce Formula One powertrains starting in 2026, and as part of that deal, F1 veteran Max Verstappen will join The Blue Oval’s stable. Verstappen has already had the chance to experience Ford machinery on track, appearing in a recent ad behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang Dark Horse.

Verstappen and the Ford Mustang Dark Horse were turned loose on Italy’s Circuito Tazio Nuvolari for the ad, which is titled “Living On The Limit.” Verstappen is shown at the controls of the Mustang Dark Horse, clad in his racing firesuit and open-face helmet as he puts the pony through its paces.

“To drive is to master the machine,” a voiceover says as the scene opens on Verstappen and the Mustang Dark Horse. “The best car is one that authorizes the driver’s inner need to go faster and liberates the Dark Horse within.”

Verstappen throws the Ford Mustang Dark Horse around the track, while close-up shots show the high-performance pony car’s digital instrument cluster as it flicks to redline. Verstappen looks right at home in the driver’s seat of the Mustang, stoic as he guides the pony car, tearing around corners to the tune of smoking tires as he lets it step out just enough to test the track’s limits.

In the lead up to 2026, Ford’s F1 endeavors go beyond Verstappen and the Mustang Dark Horse. Early last year, The Blue Oval invited Verstappen and Sergio Perez to take the Ford Bronco for an off-road jaunt. It was a welcome challenge for the open-wheel drivers. However, it’s worth noting that the RBR driver roster has changed a bit since that video was made. Perez is out at RBR, replaced by the young Liam Lawson as the team prioritizes its long term future.

There’s also been rumblings that Verstappen could cut ties with RBR before the Ford join up. A driver of his caliber wants to be competitive, and if he thinks that the new partnership won’t measure up, it won’t be out of the realm of possibilities for him to cut and run.
