The 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R represented the ultimate, hardcore, track-focused, no-frills version of the iconic pony car in its heyday, instantly cementing its status in automotive history. Just 300 were built in total, making it a rare and valuable machine as well, but we’ve seen a few pop up for sale in recent years, regardless. Now, those that covet this very special model have another one to bid on, too.
This 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is number 30 of those 300 produced, and it’s currently up for grabs at Cars & Bids. However, rather than stash it away, bone stock, hoping to one day sell it for mounds of money, the owner has instead opted to modify this rare pony car in many ways. Though it only has 4,300 miles on the clock, this Cobra R does come with all of the removed stock components at least, so if the new owner wants to return it to factory form, they certainly can.
For now, as it sits, this Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R has been equipped with a Vortech supercharger, Ford GT fuel pumps, custom stainless steel headers, and a Bassani exhaust system, which help its factory 5.4L V8 churn out a cool 813 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque on race gas – quite a bit more than the original ratings of 385 horsepower and 385 pound-feet. The fortified mill is now mated to a Pfitzner Performance Gearbox T56 six-speed sequential transmission as well, coupled with Wilwood brake rotors at all four corners.
Inside the cabin, the owner has also added auxiliary fuel pressure and boost pressure gauges, seat harnesses, and a harness bar, making it quite the fun track toy, if one dares wring it out there. For those that prefer their Cobra Rs to be a bit more stock, well, we’ve seen a few of those pop up for sale – though one was also recently destroyed in a tragic dealer accident, too.
