While full-size SUVs remain quite popular with new vehicle shoppers in the U.S., ultra-large models like the Ford Excursion simply don’t exist anymore. The massive Excursion – which was based on the equally-large Super Duty pickup – was rather popular in its heyday for the simple fact that it offered up space for even the largest of families, coupled with supreme towing capability. While it hasn’t been sold new in quite some time, those looking for a Ford Excursion can still find some nice ones at auction, including this 2001 model that has just 18k miles on the clock.
This 2001 Ford Excursion XLT is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer with a fairly low mileage total by any measure, and it lived with just one owner until the selling dealer acquired the large SUV in early 2023. On the outside, it’s finished in Oxford White paint with silver pinstriping and equipped with running boards, roof rails, a receiver hitch, and polished 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped with fairly new 265/75 Michelin Defender LTX tires.
Inside the cabin, one will find a set of Medium Graphite cloth upholstered seats along with a few amenities, which include a CD/cassette stereo, cruise control, and air conditioning. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 6.8L V10 Triton gas engine, which was factory-rated to produce 310 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case driving either the rear or all four wheels.
This quite nice and somewhat basic Ford Excursion is the latest of several standout examples we’ve seen hit the auction block lately, which is great news for those in the market for one – a list that also includes a 2000 model with less than 900 miles on the clock, as well as a 129k-mile 2000 Excursion, a 2002 XLT with 15k miles, and a 2003 Limited that has traveled 79k miles thus far.
