After debuting back in 1955, the Ford Thunderbird proceeded to exist in various forms over ten generations before bowing out in the late 1990s, only to return in a decidedly retro-inspired guise back in 2002. Inspired by the sporty, two-seat original, the 11th generation Ford Thunderbird only hung around until 2005, however, and that model has since remained absent from FoMoCo’s lineup. However, we come across plenty of nice, low-mile examples of these T-Birds for sale all the time, and that includes this stellar 2002 model.
This 2002 Ford Thunderbird is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 31k miles on the clock, having just recently moved from California – where it was sold new – to Pennsylvania. The T-Bird is finished in Evening Black paint, accompanied by an Evening Black removable hardtop, a power Midnight Black soft top, and all of the requisite details we’ve come to expect on these cars – including its chrome 17-inch seven-spoke wheels, in this case, wrapped with 235/50 Michelin Defender tires.
Inside the cabin, one will find a matching black leather interior with power adjustable seats, aluminum-look trim, and amenities such as dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash six-CD changer. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, this is just the latest of many Ford Thunderbird models from this last generation that we’ve spotted for sale with few miles on the clock lately. That list also includes a 2002 model with just 20 original miles, another 2002 with 11k miles, and a 2003 T-Bird showing less than 2k on the odometer. If nothing else, it’s pretty easy to find a solid example of these sporty cruisers out there on the market these days – and typically, at a reasonable price.
