The Ford F-150 has long been one of the top-selling vehicles on earth, and is a common sight on the roads as a result. That popularity has also made earlier F-150 models quite collectible and valuable over the years, too, a phenomenon that seems to be creeping up into more recent generations as of late. That includes models produced and sold in the 2000s and even 2010s, as we’ve seen quite a few pop up at collector car auctions as of late – a list that now includes this bare bones yet rather nice 2005 Ford F-150 XL.
This 2005 Ford F-150 XL is up for auction at Bring a Trailer currently, and it’s a very interesting and unique example of the work truck trim, too. The seller purchased the truck new simply to use for personal projects, and as such, it only has 13k miles showing on the odometer today. That person didn’t bother to tick too many option boxes, either – in fact, this Ford F-150 is a regular cab, short bed model finished in Oxford White and has no chrome or fancy trim to speak of, coupled with 17-inch steel wheels.
The same goes for the interior, which is equipped with a tan vinyl 40/20/40 split-folding bench seat, along with a few amenities including air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo, and a black rubber floor liner. There are some paint chips and scratches on the outside, along with a broken trim piece on the driver’s door panel and damage to the left dashboard cover. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 4.2L V6, which was factory rated to produce 202 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
If nothing else, this has to be perhaps the lowest-mile Ford F-150 XL of this generation that we’ve come across, and the fact that it has a manual gearbox only adds to the intrigue – especially since one can’t go out and purchase a new F-150 with such a thing. Otherwise, we tend to come across mostly limited-production or special examples of this generation F-150 at auction, such as the Foose Edition – not basic work trucks.
