2017 Ford Mustang Among Most Reliable Used Sports Cars Under $25K

The Ford Mustang has earned its fair share of accolades over its 60 years of existence, aside from simply being a popular option for fans of sporty, American vehicles, in general. In fact, the iconic pony car previously earned the distinction of being Consumer Reportshighest-rated American sports car, based on that organization’s overall scores, comprised of multiple categories including safety, road tests, owner satisfaction, and reliability. Now, the 2017 Ford Mustang, specifically, has been recognized by Consumer Reports for both its affordability and reliability.

In its latest list of reliable used sports cars that can be purchased for less than $25,000, Consumer Reports highlighted the 2017 Ford Mustang for a number of reasons. This particular list was once again derived using the organization’s overall scores, plus road testing, survey data, predicted reliability rankings, and two specific price categories. The goal here is to figure out which fun, sporty vehicles budget-conscious shoppers can go out and purchase and enjoy without having to necessarily worry about dishing out tons of money for repairs at the same time.

In that regard, the 2017 Ford Mustang made the cut in the $10,000-$15,000 range, along with the 2018 BMW 4-Series and 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Mustang achieved that status thanks to the fact that it can be had for as little as $12,000, and it’s a Consumer Reports recommended model with above average road test results, plus solid reliability and owner satisfaction scores.

Consumer Reports praised the 2017 Ford Mustang for having “fresh and quite handsome” styling, one with good interior quality, soft-touch materials, and plenty of retro cues. The organization was also a fan of the pony car’s switch to an independent rear suspension, which improved ride comfort, along with the presence of optional safety goodies including forward collision warning, blind sport warning, and rear cross traffic warning. In addition to the V8-powered GT, CR is also a fan of the turbocharged EcoBoost model, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
