2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator Recalled Over Seat Belt Anchor Bolts

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator models over an issue with the seat belt anchor bolts. A recall has also been issued for select 2020-2021 Ford Explorer models over the same problem.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the seat belt buckle anchor bolts at one or more seating positions may be improperly secured. Additionally, vehicles may have an improperly secured seat belt retractor anchor bolt and/or seat belt anchor bolt at the second-row center seating position, if equipped.

The hazards: a loose seat belt or seat belt buckle may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Components: seat belt buckle anchor bolts from supplier Lear Hammond.

Affected vehicles: select 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator models built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between October 19th, 2018, and July 11th, 2020.

Number of vehicles affected: 240,510 total models, consisting of:

  • 216,563 Explorers
  • 23,947 Aviators

The fix: dealers will inspect seat belt buckle anchor bolts in all seating positions. Additionally, dealers will inspect the seat belt retractor anchor bolt and seat belt anchor bolt at the second-row center seating position, if equipped. If loose anchor bolts are found, the affected seat components will be replaced, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on March 31st, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S09.
