2025 Ford Ranger Engines And Availability Explained

Fresh off a complete overhaul for the 2024 model year, the 2025 Ford Ranger carries on with a choice of three engine options. Below, Ford Authority outlines exactly what you need to know about the trio, including specs, pricing, and availability.

The standard engine offered on the 2025 Ford Ranger is the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost I4. That small but mighty powerhouse motivates the midsize pickup with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission delivers power via either standard rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or optional four-wheel-drive (4WD), the latter of which is offered on all trims at a premium. The 2.3L engine is standard on the Ranger XL, XLT, and Lariat trims.

An upgrade is available in the form of the twin-turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine, which is offered on certain 2025 Ford Ranger trims. This 315-horsepower six-cylinder doles out 400 pound-feet of torque, making it strong but efficient option for Ranger owners who need a little more power than the standard four-cylinder. Offered as an upgrade on the Ranger XLT and Lariat for $2,195, this engine is also paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission supporting RWD or 4WD.

Finally, the range-topping 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor is the only model in the lineup to feature the twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6. That engine is tuned to deliver a healthy 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful engine offered in the midsize pickup. The Ranger Raptor is exclusively available in 4WD guise, but still makes good use of the 10-speed automatic transmission like its “regular” Ranger brethren.

The Ranger Raptor costs $57,315, including the $1,595 destination freight charge (DFC), easily making it the most expensive Ranger in the lineup. By comparison, the XL starts at $34,675; the XLT at $37,705; and the Lariat at $45,475 including DFC. Ford Authority previously explored all available wheels for the midsize pickup, along with its lineup of optional packages.

Production of the 2025 Ford Ranger at the Michigan Assembly plant kicked off on January 2nd, 2025.

  1. They should offer the 2.7 in no trubocharged…some of us need relialbity and pay extra for a simplier more relaible engine…

  2. Cam phasers in the 2.7 are a problem and the engine has to be pulled to fix them. So Ford quality continues to decline even though Farley wants you to believe otherwise.
