92 Year Old Still Drives Her Manual 2000 Ford Super Duty: Video

Many of us have a special connection with certain automobiles or brands, roots that were planted when we were quite young, in a lot of cases. That’s certainly true in the world of Ford, which has its fair share of Blue Oval devotees, and many of us would never dream of driving anything else. Then there are the folks that keep those vehicles for long periods of time, simply because they love them so much they can’t imagine parting ways or moving on to something else. That list includes a 92-year-old Ford Super Duty owner named Bev, it seems, who clearly loves her truck more than most others probably do.

In a recent Facebook post from Jim Vreeland Ford in California, we get to hear Bev’s story, which is quite fascinating for a number of reasons. She’s been tooling around in Ford trucks and buying them from this particular dealership since 1983, but has a particular fondness for her 2000 Ford Super Duty, which now has 334,000 miles on the clock. It’s equipped with the 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel engine, and – amazingly enough – a six-speed manual transmission, which may be the reason why she has opted not to purchase a replacement yet.

After all, Ford doesn’t sell manual pickups in the U.S. anymore, and Bev has preferred that type of gearbox since she got her driver’s license at the tender age of 13. Her very first pickup was a 1945 flatbed with a three-speed manual that she purchased for mere $25, which was used to haul hay on the family ranch, and her Ford Super Duty does much of the same sort of thing – just scope out its bed rack and various other mods.

Given the fact that Bev has been driving stick shift trucks for 78 years, we can’t blame her for not wanting to change at this point – nor swap out her Super Duty for some other-branded truck. After all, it isn’t every day we see that kind of loyalty, especially in today’s increasingly fickle world.

H/T: The Drive

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  3. That’s awesome! Nice truck Bev, love seeing Superdutys staying on the job for decades like this. I have almost same exact truck but mines a XL not XLT, and unfortunately I live in WNY and not in California(not that I would ever want to) where rocksalt is applied by the ton loads on the roads for 5+ months a year and our vehicles suffer from the corrosive cancerous rust caused by it! I wish my truck looked that nice, clean and sharp! Congratulations Bev, keep going strong along with your truck!
