The prevalence of dashcams out on the road means that one should probably assume that anything they do in traffic is caught on film. That was an unfortunate reality for one policeman in Las Vegas, Nevada. While he didn’t cause an accident with another vehicle, he managed to strike a traffic cone with his Ford Police Interceptor Utility while turning left at an intersection, and now, that video has gone viral.
The dashcam video was originally captured by user Poof_Hatch who posted it to the Reddit community r/IdiotsInCars. The cammer was sitting at an intersection with a clear view of the incident. The light goes green for traffic heading the opposite direction of the cammer, and the lead vehicle begins to turn left, mindful of the cones blocking off an apparent construction zone in a lane to the cammer’s right.
However, the second car in line – the Ford Police Interceptor Utility – doesn’t appear to see the bright orange traffic cones or the “keep right” sign placed around the closed lane. The policeman cuts the corner a little too close (after making eye contact with the cammer, according to the video’s caption) and plows into one of the cones. He doesn’t appear to notice right away, even as the cone slides a ways and topples over. In fact, it takes him running over it before he stops.
The cop does park his Ford Police Interceptor Utility and gets out to right the knocked-over cone. He collects its various pieces and puts it back where it was supposed to go, although as one commenter points out, he might have preferred to have just bowled the cone over and driven away.
The Vegas cop isn’t alone, though – a few months ago, video surfaced of another Ford Police Interceptor Utility getting mowed down after being inexplicably parked on active train tracks. Another government employee, this time delivering mail in a USPS Ford Transit Connect, crashed into (and absolutely destroyed) a mailbox not too long ago, too.
