FBI Catches Thief Who Stole 2022 Ford F-150 From Roush

In recent years, we’ve seen automotive thefts soar to new levels, but it isn’t just private owners that are being targeted – rather, automakers and aftermarket companies are also seeing an uptick in terms of having vehicles stolen from their own lots, too. Ford has certainly dealt with this particular problem on multiple occasions as of late, and that also applies to one of its long-time third-party partners – Roush Performance. In fact, Roush had two of its Ford F-150 pickups stolen from the company’s facility in Allen Park, Michigan back in 2023, and that was just one of several incidents. Luckily, the FBI was able to find and arrest a crew that was responsible for some of those thefts recently.

According to The Detroit News, The FBI was able to track down the crew of high-tech thieves who stole a number of vehicles throughout Metro Detroit recently after an extensive undercover operation. At least two of those recovered vehicles were Blue Oval pickups – one of which was a 2022 Ford F-150 – but across several years, many others were stolen as well. “The vehicles were taken by individuals wearing ski masks who had exited a black SUV,” FBI Special Agent Shane Hoffmann stated in a search warrant affidavit.

The pair of Ford trucks were stolen directly from Roush back in late 2022 at its headquarters in Livonia, both of which were taken as vehicles were being loaded on a trailer. The thieves swapped out VINs on many of these stolen models, but thanks to the presence of connected vehicle technology – combined with some old fashioned sleuth work including video surveillance – the FBI was ultimately able to track them down and arrest the perpetrators.

Ford is no stranger to this same epidemic of automotive theft, as a number of Ford F-150 models have been stolen from its own lots in recent years. That includes a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R that was reportedly on its way to a Ford development facility when it was taken from the company’s lot on Miller Road in Dearborn, along with several other F-150 Raptor pickups that thieves made off in right after they surfaced from the assembly line.

  1. This brings to mind a time when they were off-loading Lincolns at Budget RAC, Miami, when I guy ran up jumped in one and took off. Five years later they caught the guy, why did it take so long? He only drove it at night and only occasionally, but this time he had an emergency and took in out in the daylight, no license tag and got pulled over, and the rest is history. Budget called me and asked if we would be interested in purchasing the pristine Lincoln with less then 5K miles on it, of course they were kidding it belonged to their insurance co.
