Ford 24.7 Pickup Concept Resurfaces After 25 Years

Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of automotive concept vehicles appear and subsequently disappear, oftentimes, being destroyed or stashed in some sort of facility, away from public view. In certain cases, however, those concept vehicles wind up in private hands or are sold by automakers – sometimes, years or even decades later. Now, that’s precisely the case with the Ford 24.7 Pickup Concept, which has seemingly resurfaced after a whopping 25 years.

The Ford 24.7 – one of hundreds of concepts produced by the automaker over the years – was just discovered and acquired by a Reddit user, who posted pictures of the pickup in rather sad condition recently. They plan to try and get the old concept running, but like many others, it doesn’t really seem to be equipped for such things – at least, in its current state. However, the new owner notes that it doesn’t currently run but he was told the electronics do work, and it’s “basically a Ford Focus” with a new body and interior, though he’s not so sure if that’s the case. Getting the Ford 24.7 concept legal for road use, well, that’s another issue entirely.

In any event, the Ford 24.7 Pickup Concept was intended to preview the future of transportation when it debuted back in early 2000, and it was joined by a wagon and coupe version as well. All three were designed to be simple and functional, yet chock full of advanced tech such as the ability to use voice commands to make calls and change the content on the interior screens, coupled with access to a bevy of information ranging from real-time route assistance to weather reports and stock market trading.

The Ford 24.7 Pickup is one of several older Blue Oval concept vehicles we’ve seen resurface lately, a list that also includes the 1993 Ford Ranger Sea Splash, the 1996 Ford Ghia Vivace concept, and the 2000 Ford Prodigy Prototype display model.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
