Ford 5.2L V8 Voodoo Engine And Tremec 6-Speed Up For Auction

Though Ford has offered a wide array of crate engines over the years, one has only been available in very limited quantities as of late – the naturally-aspirated, flat-plane crank 5.2L V8 Voodoo engine that was only used in one single model – the S550 generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R. The Voodoo popped up for sale in the Ford Performance catalog back in 2023 but has since sold out, though anyone looking for that particular engine – and the six-speed Tremec transmission that goes with it – can now score that combination at auction.

That’s because someone is indeed selling a Ford 5.2L V8 Voodoo powerplant and six-speed Tremec 3160 six-speed manual transmission together on Bring a Trailer, both of which came from a 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. This particular engine – which was factory-rated to produce 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque and revved to 8,200 rpm when new – reportedly had around 19k miles on it when it was removed from that pony car, and it still features the original plaque bearing the name of the person that built it.

In this case, the Voodoo powerplant is joined by a Tremec 3160 six-speed manual gearbox that still features the original markings on its aluminum housing, along with a throttle pedal, an ECU, exhaust manifolds, and the engine wiring harness. As far as why this setup is being sold at auction, removed from the GT350 it left the factory in, the seller notes that the car was involved in a front end collision, which apparently left it in a sad state of disrepair. The engine and transmission are encased in a wooden shipping crate for transport at this point.

While we don’t often see many Voodoo engines surface for sale, there are plenty of other types of Blue Oval powerplants that have crossed the auction block as of late. Those include a supercharged 5.4L V8 originally used in the 2011-2012 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, while the the supercharged 5.2.L V8 present in the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R can also be purchased new from Ford Performance as a crate engine.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
