Ford Edge Rival Chevy Blazer Dead After 2025 Model Year: Report

The very last North American Ford Edge rolled off the assembly line at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada back in May 2024 after more than two million units of the crossover were produced between 2007 and 2024. The Edge has long been a hit with critics, racking up plenty of accolades – beating out the Chevy Blazer in some comparison tests – and there are still a few thousand new units sitting on dealer lots, though that number is dwindling. However, it now seems as if the Chevy Blazer will soon be joining the Edge in the proverbial automotive graveyard in the sky, too.

According to GM Authority, the Chevy Blazer is indeed slated to be discontinued at the conclusion of the current 2025 model year, albeit, only in North America and only the ICE-powered version of that particular model. The ICE Blazer will continue to be sold in China – where it’s also offered in a larger three-row configuration – as well as in all-electric guise. Currently, the ICE version of the Chevy Blazer for North America is produced in Mexico at the Ramos Arizpe plant.

The Ramos Arizpe plant currently builds the Chevy Equinox EV, Cadillac Optiq, Chevy Blazer EV, and Honda Prologue, leaving the Blazer as its only ICE product. GM touts the fact that this plant is a “flexible” facility capable of producing both ICE models and EVs, but once production of the regular Blazer ends, it will transition to an EV-only plant.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that with the discontinuation of the ICE Blazer, GM will no longer have a gas-powered two-row mid-size crossover in its North American lineup – though the Equinox has gotten larger as of late – which is a segment that some other automakers have been keen to abandon, too. It’s unclear at the moment whether or not GM intends to offer a new ICE version of the Blazer at any point in the future, though for now at least, that possibility seems unlikely.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  5. I haven’t bought a GM product since 2005 ! We were always a GM family ,however the Build Quality from GM got progressively worse ! Electric windows didn’t work, ceilings fell down , the disc brakes didn’t work correctly, the air conditioners wern’t very good as the vent directors wouldn’t stay up . The last car was a Cadillac D’Elegance . I owned Corvairs , Buicks, GMC Suburbans, Pontiacs . Why did I buy them as they all had poor trade-in Values !

  6. It continues to surprise me how stupid the management at Ford are! They dropped the Edge, which was one of their best, most reliable vehicle in their lineup. They only have one vehicle that isn’t a SUV, the Mustang! And unfortunately that has been a sales bust since the S650 was released. Their trying to sell a 300k mustang that doesn’t make sense! And still don’t have a small, medium, or large vehicle. I miss the Crown Vic, and I’m not the only! What the hell is going on at Ford??
