Ford Focus Among Europe’s Top 50 Best Selling Cars Of 2024

As Ford Authority reported last June, production of the Ford Focus is set to end at the Saarlouis Assembly plant in Germany this coming November, which will mark yet another sad end for yet another Blue Oval passenger car years after it was discontinued in North America. Despite this, the Ford Focus does continue to sell rather well in Europe, however, and even landed on the list of the top 50 top-selling European vehicles of 2023 after recording 99,794 sales – a 26 percent increase, good enough to rank as the 33rd best-selling vehicle in that region. Now that 2024 is in the rear-view mirror, we can see that this was also the case last year, too.

According to new data from JATO Dynamics, the Ford Focus was the 46th best-selling new vehicle in Europe in 2024 after moving 85,118 units, which represented a 15 percent year-over-year sales decrease. The Focus was joined by a few other Blue Oval models on this same list, including the Puma, which ranked as the 17th best-selling car in Europe in 2024 after that model racked up 149,112 sales last year, as well as the Kuga, which came in 29th place with 105,143 sales. Additionally, the Kuga PHEV was the top-selling plug-in hybrid in the region, too.

As for the overall European car market, it posted a 0.9 percent year-over-year increase with 12,909,741 units sold, but as JATO Dynamics points out, the automotive market in that region has shrunk by nearly 2.9 million units since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020. Ford has faced its own fair share of struggles in Europe as of late too, posting a 17 percent sales decrease compared to 2023 amid weak demand for its passenger vehicle and EVs, prompting it to focus more on its successful Ford Pro commercial business moving forward.

“Overall, when you consider the range of challenges facing Europe’s automotive industry, the results for 2024 are not overly negative,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “However, you would expect any other industry to have shown significant signs of recovery by now, and there is very little evidence that the automotive industry will return to the pre-pandemic reality. The higher cost of vehicles, the rise of working from home, inflationary pressure on wages, and the emergence of new transportation solutions are among the reasons why Europeans have stopped buying brand new cars.”

  1. Wish the Focus ST’s were still available in the USA. A 6 speed manual, 350 horsepower, all wheel drive grocery better would be a blast to drive.
