The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is purpose-built for tackling rallycross terrain. Ford clearly expects the Mustang Mach-E Rally’s tough features to appeal to beyond its own lineup, frequently making previously Rally-exclusive features – like the optional wheel kit -available for other trims and models. More recently however, the Blue Oval has released pictures of the tough Mustang Mach-E Rally battery protector, giving us a first look at its construction and pricing.
The Ford Performance Battery Shield kit is available for all extended-range variants of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the automaker notes that it will not fit any models fitted with the standard-range battery. The battery protector is developed specifically for the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, and it’s composed of 2.5 mm thick aluminum and reinforced with cross-car structural elements to help protect the battery from damage that may result from driving in an SCCA sanctioned RallyCross event. The shields are designed to bolt right up to the Mustang Mach-E, and do not require any drilling or modifications to fit.
The mounting bolt colors are made from ABS plastic, and are rated for RallyCross or “spirited driving” on dirt roads or loose surfaces. However, interested customers should note that there are some limits, and that the battery protectors aren’t meant for defense against rock crawling or deeply rutted trails. The shields are rated to fit 2021 through 2024 model year Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, Select, and Premium trims, so long as they’re equipped with the extended-range battery – although Ford Performance reminds owners of these models that they probably shouldn’t take the electric crossover off-road.
Tagged with part No. M-5018-BP, the Ford Mustang Mach-E battery protectors are priced at a cool $2,995.
As Ford Authority previously reported, the idea for the Mustang Mach-E Rally was actually conceptualized in a break room conversation among Blue Oval employees, and the resulting model only took one year to develop.
