Today, decades after it originally came along, the AC Cobra remains an iconic vehicle, a model that skyrocketed to fame after Carroll Shelby got his hands on one and transformed it into an absolute monster. Back in December 2022, AC Cars announced that it would be reviving the Cobra for a new generation, and one year later, we got our first look at the AC Cobra GT Roadster, after which the coupe was unveiled last August, followed by the revived AC Ace and AC Bristol in October. Now, AC Cars has revealed that it will build these new models – which utilize Ford engines – in Sweden.
AC Cars is teaming up with T-engineering to expand its production operations, a company that is based out of the famous Trollhättan facility in Sweden. There, AC Cars will build the new AC Cobra GT Roadster and GT Coupe, all while T-engineering will also assist with the finer details of the engineering and development process. T-engineering will provide AC Cars with access to its team, engine labs, assembly space, and even the T Legacy Track, a testing facility that provides a wide array of calibration and validation services.
The Trollhättan facility will join AC Cars’ existing production site in the UK, as well as its engineering division, which is located in Germany. Both the AC Cobra GT Coupe and Roadster will be powered by Ford’s 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, which produces 450 horsepower in naturally-aspirated form, or 720 with an optional supercharger upgrade. However, the regular AC Cobra GT Coupe will be preceded by a special Clubsport model churning out 800 horsepower.
“It’s an honor to be partnering with T-engineering, and the relationship will give AC Cars access to a world class team and facilities that will not only boost the production of the AC Cobra GT range but also help development of vehicles going forward,” said David Conza, CEO of AC Cars. “T-engineering is thrilled to cooperate with AC Cars and are honored to be able to support the development of its new exciting cars and deliver manufacturing solutions for the future,” added Klas Lundgren, CEO of T-engineering. “We perfectly complement AC Cars and are convinced this is a fantastic commercial match for the future.”
